I’ve had people argue with me that these things don’t smell like crayons. They do though

Jettas smell like crayons?

A lot of German cars with leather interiors smell like crayons, or at least wax. My dad’s 135is smells like crayons, my M3 does not though.

I thought the explanation was the plastic used in Germany in the early to mid 00s. My Jetta with a cloth interior had the smell

That might be true, I think I’ve been in an early 2000s Jetta that had that smell. I think the leather might also contribute, which is why my dad’s 135is has the smell. It’s made with the same materials as my 128i, 328i, and M3; none of which had/have the crayon smell.

You can only blame him for the first time he took the Tahoe, dad.
Every time after that, he took it because you let him. Grow a pair.

I think it’s the soft touch rubberized coatings they use on all the plastics. It’s not bad, just unique. There are a lot worse interior smells, like most Toyotas from the era. You know, the ones with the dashboards made of shiny, blinding material.

If my son steps up, I’m smacking Tahoe!
Now get out my house and drive around, drive around.

Are we certain this was not posted by the child’s mother??

The smell is awful. I don’t get it.

My thoughts exactly.

Ha! Reminds me of what my good friend said about his son, “last time my boy was close to pussy he was coming out of one.”

Damn, I had no idea.

I dunno about other generations but every single Jetta (and a couple beetles) of that era I’ve been in does

I don’t know the cause but you could be right. It’s just weird the smell never goes away

Takes me back to high school. Used to spend a good bit of time driving around in one with a friend
